Against what is (or was) known to be one of the top touch clubs around, we went here a lil nervous. This game became a reverse of last week's match where they took us on with 6 players only and won 6-2.
They played a controlled game with very straight driving patterns. We played a game that rarely reached their five meter lines. There's a team out there called the meter-eaters. We could have called ourselves the meter-wasters as we took forever to recycle our ball. The ref played a lenient game, letting them get away with passing the ball at us and restarting the count. He let us get away with some terrible ball planting. Kerhan angled planted so badly he was almost facing backwards. Perhaps its not a penalty when you're so angled that you're parallel to the try lines.
Good work from wring-in Daniel for trying to create something everytime he was on the field. He set Chris up for an easy try with a simple scooper's run. Later in the game Nick L scooped too. Heading down the open-side direction moe-Joe cut too soon leaving him with half the width of the field with no support players. Luckily he found someone to give it to eventually.
Their tries were sharp - nothing lucky or flukey. Several other times they threatened to score quite easily against us. Nonetheless we are definitely improving as a team. Not long ago these guys would have washed us out with a bigger margin.
Lesson to be learnt: Do what Daniel does.
